Showcasing the Artistry and Heritage of Filipino Fashion.

The Imperial Hotel in Tokyo came alive on June 12~13, 2023 with vibrant colors, intricate weaves, and stunning designs of the Philippines at the highly anticipated HABInatin "Philippine Terno and Weaves Exhibition and Lecture." This extraordinary event showcased the beauty and craftsmanship of Filipino indigenous fabrics, particularly through the creation of gorgeous terno gowns by renowned designers. The event, organized by Tetta Ortiz Matera and sponsored by The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo in cooperation with Setro Rizal – Tokyo and National Commission for Culture and the Arts, was graced by the presence of Mylene J. Garcia-Albano, the Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to Japan.

At the heart of the event was the distinguished designer Len Cabili, who took immense pride in promoting Filipino culture and heritage. Cabili has been instrumental in bringing recognition to the country's artisans and their exceptional craftsmanship. Through her designs, she has consistently showcased the diverse traditions and techniques found in different regions of the Philippines.

One of the highlights of the event was the live demonstration by Ms. Padirna Suraya, a Tausug weaver from Jolo. Guests had the privilege of witnessing Suraya's remarkable skill and witnessing the creation of intricate weaves right before their eyes. This demonstration served as a powerful reminder of the rich cultural heritage and the legacy of the indigenous communities in the Philippines.

Following the lecture and demonstration, the program culminated in a dazzling display of Philippine "Terno" gowns. The terno, a traditional Filipino dress, is known for its distinctive butterfly sleeves.
