As the number of deployed health workers abroad has reached its limit of 5,000 health workers annually, the Philippine government suspended the further deployment of nurses, nursing assistants, and nursing aides overseas.

The administrator of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Bernard Olalia, issued a statement over the weekend through the agency’s website that the processing of permits for healthcare workers abroad has been suspended immediately. Also, according to the administrator’s statement, health workers who have received their employment certificates prior to the suspension are still allowed to depart and work abroad.
