Autumn has arrived, and in Japan, it is known not only for the beautiful scenery during this time but also for the festivals and delicious foods throughout the country that can only be experienced during this time. For example, Otsukimi (お月見) refers to the Japanese tradition of honoring the autumn moon. It literally means looking at the moon, so in some parts of Japan, it is not surprising to see local residents gathering together with their traditional autumn food such as sweet potato (サツマイモ) and "tsukimi dango" (団子) - a traditional which is a Japanese dish made of sticky rice that is eaten while staring at the moon. Since rice and other root crops are harvested during this time, they are also offered as offerings to the deities for a good harvest.
